5 great Advent Calendars you need to have this Christmas!

If Advent Calendars is the thing you are looking for, you will love this guide our top 5 Advent Calendars!

I am so ready for Christmas! After a toned down, COVID-19, Christmas last year, most of us are eagerly awaiting for a somewhat normal Christmas. One of our favourite things about Christmas (and there are many things we love about Christmas, trust us!) are Advent Calendars! That feeling of getting a small present every day until Christmas day, the anticipation of what you will find, even if it is a small thing, is simply priceless.

In 2019, Jon and I gifted each other with our own ‘homemade’ Advent Calendars. In 2020, we opted for a Popp Craft Beer Advent Calendar. Both of these were the main inspiration for the 5 Advent Calendar items we recommend for 2021! We have a selection of 3 DIY ‘homemade’ Advent Calendar Malta and 2 ready-made Advent Calendar versions, if you would rather avoid the hassle of creating your own, but still be sure to get the best selection of items.

So, if Advent Calendars are the thing you are looking for, you will love this guide on the 5 Advent Calendars we at OMGFoodMalta are recommending this year!

Popp Advent Calendar Malta

You may recall last year’s Popp Advent Calendar. Jon got a very large box (and heavy as well), which beautifully displayed the Popp logo in the design. That is why this year we are very happy to welcome another Advent Calendar from Popp home this year. This one is particularly exciting because each day will allow its recipient to reveal and enjoy a full sized craft beer.

All 24 craft beers have never been sold in Malta before.  They come from 13 different breweries, have 21 different beer styles and come from 8 countries. This is a great Advent Calendar for anyone who loves and appreciates the particular flavours only craft beers can offer. Your loved one would be very happy with this Popp Advent Calendar and at €90.00, we think it is great value for money. Look out for our stories every day from 1st December till 24th December, or better yet, get yourself one and share your stories with us!

DIY Spirits Advent Calendar Malta

If you or your loved one is more interested in spirits than beer, you might be willing to opt for a DIY approach to Advent Calendars. We have created a guide in a separate article on which miniature whiskeys, gins, limoncellos, and brandys we recommend adding to your Spirits Advent Calendars. This option would cost you just over €100 (€105.73 to be exact) and this amount does not include the wrapping.

If you would like to keep the cost low, you can easily opt for brown paper bags with numbers for each day of the 24-day period. If you’re looking for something a bit fancier, you can buy a wooden one. They’re not cheap but they do also serve as decorations. Not just a way to store hidden gifts!

DIY Warm Beverage Advent Calendar Malta

A cold winter day (as we would expect from a day in December) is the perfect opportunity to sit down and enjoy a lovely hot drink, preferably whilst enjoying a nice Christmas movie (Home Alone, of course!) or an interesting love/crime (take your pick) novel.

For the Warm Beverage Advent Calendar we chose our favourites from Tettiera, Mantra Malta, Malta Chocolate Factory, Lot Sixty One and Brew Tea & Coffee Merchants. Add in a packet of mini marshmallows and you’ll have a great selection of tea glass tube flavours, biscuits, mug, superfood lattes, frappes, Japanese Loose Leaf Green Teas, choc-bombs, loose leaf teas and ground coffee.

Venchi Chocolate Advent Calendar Malta

Located in Is-Suq tal-Belt, Valletta Venchi is an Italian chocolate store with a great selection of fine chocolates and ice creams. You’re probably familiar with their wide range of individually wrapped, delicious chocolates.

Venchi Christmas items are a must-have for your Christmas and luckily for your loved ones with a sweet tooth, Venchi have a great Venchi Chocolate Advent Calendar. Your loved one will open a chocolate piece of Venchi chocolate for every day of the Advent Calendar. It definitely beats the chocolate Advent Calendars available at Supermarkets. Your loved one deserves the best when it comes to their chocolate!
