Karin Duff

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Karin Duff here. I’m a local artist, singer & songwriter. I’m Maltese, but the name originates from England, as my father is British.

What inspired you to start singing?
I’ve had a passion for music for as long as I can remember. Always loved dancing and singing, but as I got older, at around the time when I was 12 years old I realized that it’s singing what I wanted to do. Both my brother and sister used to listen to top hits all the time, and I guess that’s where it all started. Was never the best at expressing myself, and that’s where music fit in. I always felt myself when singing and performing, and still, do to this day! It’s something I can’t go a day without thinking about.

Would you describe yourself as a foodie?
Yes, Definitely. I. Love. Food.

What is your favourite dish?
Mmm, I can’t really choose, there are so many! But I truly love traditional Maltese dishes and nibbles, such as bigilla and galletti, and homemade meat pie.

Are you a good cook? Do you have a signature dish?
I can make a few sweet dishes, but not the ideal cook for anything savoury. I know the basics! I do follow recipes, and they do turn out good, but wouldn’t call myself a great cook! Haha

What is your guilty food pleasure?
Mini Doughnuts. And Cake. Sweet Tooth alert!

Do you enjoy eating out?
Although I really enjoy homemade meals, occasionally yes I do enjoy eating out at a really good restaurant.

What do you look for when choosing a restaurant to dine out at?
I love dining at a restaurant which has a relaxing environment, a great atmosphere, and serves heavenly delicious food. Yum!

Is there any international cuisine you are fond of?
Mmm, Thai Food!

What was the strangest food you have ever tried? and did you enjoy it?
I’m not that adventurous when it comes to food! Can’t really think of anything strange!

Are there any foods that bring back special memories to you?
Yes. My mum used to make the best-boiled apples with cinnamon. I still enjoy them, even though they’re super simple to make. It reminds me of my childhood.

What is the one type of food you could not live without?
Bread and Pasta. I simply can’t.

Do you believe that ‘we are what we eat’?
Actually yes. I do believe in eating a well-balanced diet and eating healthy. I do my best to always go for healthier options when possible.Don’t know if it’s just me, but whenever I eat the right food I tend to feel better. But that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy a burger every once in a while.

If you could choose any person to have dinner with, who would it be?
I can’t really choose. I love meeting up with people and chatting over lunch and dinner. I enjoy everyone’s company, as long as they bring along good vibes!

Do you have a life motto?
One too many. But one life motto I follow and always say to myself no matter what is, to be myself and to be kind to myself and to others. Work hard, and the 5 by 5 rule. If it’s not gonna matter in 5 years, don’t spend more than 5 minutes being upset about it. See! Find it too hard to just mention one haha!

What is your final message to our readers?
Be yourself, be ambitious and be kind. Don’t ever let anyone tell you what you can or you can’t do, and make sure that whatever it is you’re doing, it’s making you happy. Because life is too short to not be.
