Yazmin Helledie

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m 24 years old, half Maltese, half Danish and live in Mellieha. I’m a Speech Language Pathologist and LSE. I’m engaged and getting married later this year.

What inspired you to start singing?
My dad is a singer and musician, so he was definitely my inspiration.

Would you describe yourself as a foodie?

I wasn’t, but my fiance loves food and is an amazing cook, so in the past years I’ve become more of a foodie because of him.

What is your favourite dish?
A delicious plate of carbonara.

Are you a good cook?
Do you have a signature dish? I’m a horrible cook! So my signature dish is something very simple like tortellini and cream.

What is your guilty food pleasure?
Fries in ice cream. Sounds horrible but tastes really good.

Do you enjoy eating out?
Yes, I love eating out.

What do you look for when choosing a restaurant to dine out at?
Delicious food, a nice selection of wine and a nice atmosphere. Live music is ALWAYS a plus !

Is there any international cuisine you are fond of?

Definitely Italian.

What, in your opinion, is the sexiest food?
Strawberries and chocolate

What was the strangest food you have ever tried? and did you enjoy it?
I don’t think I’ve tried any strange food to be honest, but I’d be open to.

Are there any foods that bring back special memories to you?
Risalamande which is a Danish Christmas dessert, like a rice pudding. It’s filled with crush almonds and a few full almonds. Whoever finds the full almond gets a gift. Really takes me back to when I was younger and all the kids magically had a full almond in their dish every year 🙂

What is the one type of food you could not live without?
Pasta !

Do you believe that ‘we are what we eat’?
What we eat is definitely a big part of our overall lifestyle, but I definitely don’t believe in taking the saying too seriously.

If you could choose any person to have dinner with, who would it be?
My fiance Keith or my Mum because I believe quality time is so important in our super busy lives.

Do you have a life motto?
Everything happens for a reason 🙂

What is your final message to our readers?
It’s important to eat healthy, but it’s also important to indulge and enjoy food ! Most importantly try to spend time eating with your loved ones.
