Celine Agius

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Basically, I am an average human being with a big passion for music, I love hanging around with friends for a good drink. I have a big passion for blues music. Started singing lessons quite late in life. Stopped singing for 6 years and finally I became an X Factor Malta finalist.

What inspired you to start singing?
I started singing without knowing, it just happened, I loved it and I just did it without thinking about it. It was my escapism from this tough world and I found sanctuary in singing.

Would you describe yourself as a foodie?
Yes, I am a foodie, having said that I’m also very selective, I do not have many things which I like to eat, normally I eat the same foods – which I really like.

What is your favourite dish?
My favourite dish would be pasta with simple napoletana or basilico sauce

Are you a good cook? Do you have a signature dish?
I can cook, pasta. I am a vegetarian because I watched a documentary of animal slaughter and I became vegetarian 6 years ago. I think I am quite decent at making a good dish of pasta, I think my lasagne is my signature dish.

What is your guilty food pleasure?
My guilty food pleasure is mixing ketchup with mayo.

Do you enjoy eating out?
I enjoy going out for dinner, yes, with good company and drink some good wine.

What do you look for when choosing a restaurant to dine out at?
When I go out to dine in a restaurant, I normally check the menu before to see if they cater for vegetarians.

Is there any international cuisine you are fond of?
International cuisine I’m fond of has to be the Italian cuisine, exquisite.

What, in your opinion, is the sexiest food?
The sexiest food in my opinion is anything like pizza and pasta.

What was the strangest food you have ever tried? and did you enjoy it?
I am not that diverse when it comes to eating. I normally eat my favourite few dishes and not so keen in experimenting with ethnic cuisines. For example, I am not a fan of spicy food and pungent chillies and I dislike sushi and once tried wasabi, and I was like, never again.

Are there any foods that bring back special memories to you?
Everytime I eat tortellini or spaghetti with homemade tomato sauce it brings back memories of my good grandma’s pasta dishes. My Grandma’s spaghetti had a distinct taste like no one did it like she it.

What is the one type of food you could not live without?
One food I can’t live without is also fries.

Do you believe that ‘we are what we eat’?
Yes, I think we are what we eat, as they say the people who like to eat are normally the most amazing people and I consider myself pretty cool 😛 hahahahhaaha.

If you could choose any person to have dinner with, who would it be?
If there is one person I would choose to have a dinner with is probably Billie Holliday or Etta James but I would choose to have one last dinner with my late grandpa who supported my music and believed in me with all his heart but passed away 13 years ago. I would do anything to have one last dinner with him and catch up with life, it has been a long time and I miss him immensely.

Do you have a life motto?
My life motto is whatever you choose to do, do it with all your heart and soul. That is basically all you need.

What is your final message to our readers?
My final message to the readers is do what you want to do and say what you feel, coz those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. Do whatever you love, eat the cake, do the things that set your heart alive, as one we will turn blue and we won’t be able to do the things we can do now.
